June 8th ANCIENT JERUSALEM
More than three thousand years of history, religion and people who live side by side to this day. Church bells mingle with the sounds of the Muezzin's voice, in the Jewish quarter and all over town. During our two days here, subject to timing and logistical factors, we will visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the Dome of the Rock and the Wailing Wall, all in short walking distance of each other. We will have a scenic panoramic view from the Mount of Olives to the Temple Mount and over the city of Jerusalem.
We will walk from the Lions Gate into the Old City, visiting the 4 quarters of the walled city of Jerusalem: the Muslim, Armenian, Christian and Jewish quarters, including the Wailing Wall. You will be able to roam through the Arab market, with its narrow alleys and small authentic shops. We will also visit the Mount of Olives with its churches, the Via Dolorosa, the Temple Mount (subject to the Muslim authorities and Israeli security). During our Jerusalem stay we will also have a bus tour of the modern capital of Israel.
One of our Jerusalem evenings will include a meeting at the Jerusalem Open House with the local glbt community with both Israelis and hopefully, also Palestinians. Our evening will also include an optional festive dinner at the famous Tmol Shilshom restaurant, gay-owned and very gay friendly. (Dinner not included) An optional cultural event (concert, dance performance, cinemateque screening etc. might be available for the other Jerusalem evening. healing black mud (bring your camera!).
